The Chicago Cubs will be busy this winter

The Cubs have four free agents going into the winter but they will likely try to bring back only two of them (Reed Johnson, John Grabow) while likely letting Rich Harden and Kevin Gregg leave. The Cubs have a big need to bring in a big bat to play the corner outfield with Milton Bradley likely on his way out of Chicago. Bobby Abreu, Jermaine Dye, Marlon Byrd and Johnny Damon are likely targets for the Cubs in the outfield. The Cubs also need a full time 2B that they can trust and a lot of them will likely be available in free agency. Ronnie Belliard, Orlando Hudson, Akinori Iwamura, Adam Kennedy, Felipe Lopez, Placido Polanco, Freddy Sanchez (if the Giants let him go) and Juan Uribe would all be upgrades at 2B for the Cubs. The Cubs also need a upgrade at back up catcher as Koyie Hill is not that good. Rod Barajas, Henry Blanco, Jason Kendall, Jose Molina, Miguel Olivo, Mike Redmond, Brian Schneider, Yorvit Torrealba and Gregg Zaun. The thing that drove Lou Piniella batty last season was the weakness of the bullpen and they will likely address that this winter. From the left side look for Mike Gonzalez, Joe Beimel, Scott Eyre, Ron Mahay, Darren Oliver and Brian Shouse will interest the Cubs. From the right side look for Danys Baez, David Weathers, Rafael Betancourt (if the Rockies let him go), Octavio Dotel, LaTroy Hawkins, Bobby Howry and Brandon Lyon. The Cubs will be busy this winter as they need to improve the team a bit to compete with the Cardinals.
