The Chicago Cubs send Chris Carpenter to the Red Sox

The Cubs have sent 26-year old righty reliever Chris Carpenter and a player to be named later to the Red Sox for a player to be named later to complete the compensation for ex-Red Sox’ GM Theo Epstein. Carpenter pitched in 10 games (0 starts) for the Cubs last year and he was 0-0 with a 2.79 ERA and a 1.97 WHIP. He also pitched in 32 games (0 starts) in AA+AAA-ball last year and he was 3-4 with 2 saves, a 5.91 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. Carpenter was going to have a good shot of making the Cubs’ bullpen in 2012, but it’s still a fair deal for both teams.
